Welcome! I'm Chris Kidd, and I'm running to serve as your next Clerk of Court for Halifax County, North Carolina. With a deep commitment to our community and years of experience in public service, I am ready to bring transparency, efficiency, and accessibility to the Clerk of Court's office.

The Clerk of Court plays a vital role in our justice system, serving as the keeper of public records, managing court proceedings, and ensuring that every citizen has access to the services they need. I believe this office should operate with the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a dedication to serving the people of Halifax County with honor and distinction. Why I'm Running

After over a year of thoughtful consideration—grounded in prayer, meditation, and constant reflection—I am proud to officially announce my candidacy for Clerk of Superior Court for Halifax County. With more than a decade of combined experience at both the county and state level, it has been one of my greatest honors to serve ALL citizens of this county—regardless of race, gender, age, or background. My commitment has always been rooted in fairness, integrity, and treating every individual with dignity and respect.

Our current judicial staff works tirelessly on behalf of the people. They collaborate daily with law enforcement, attorneys, educators, medical professionals, and many others who keep our justice system functioning. I am grateful to be part of such hardworking, dedicated teams and remain eager each day to contribute to the important work we do.

Today, I humbly ask the great citizens of Halifax County to support me in this journey and allow me the privilege of serving as your next Clerk of Superior Court.

Meet Chris Kidd

Biography

A proud product of the Halifax County Public School system, Chris attended Aurelian Springs Elementary, William R. Davie Middle School, and Northwest Halifax High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Public Administration from Elizabeth City State University.

Professional Experience

Chris Kidd is a lifelong Halifax County resident, born and raised with a heart for service and a passion for helping people navigate the judicial system. For more than ten years, he has worked in the courthouse supporting citizens from all walks of life: families, seniors, veterans, young adults, and local professionals. Chris is known for his approachable demeanor, strong work ethic, and genuine commitment to the community he calls home. He has built trusted relationships across county departments and local organizations, working every day to ensure that citizens receive fair and respectful service. Chris understands the day-to-day needs of the Clerk's Office and is dedicated to improving efficiency, communication, and access to essential services. His mission is simple: serve the people first, lead with integrity, and continue building a courthouse that works for everyone.

Community Involvement

Deeply committed to community and professional service, Chris is a member of the North Carolina Magistrates Association and previously served with the Roanoke Valley Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Currently, Chris maintains strong ties to his alma mater as a member and the Vice President of the J.T. Doles Elizabeth City State University Alumni Chapter.

Role of the Clerk of Superior Court

The Clerk of Superior Court is a constitutional officer who oversees many of the essential functions that keep the justice system running smoothly. The Clerk is responsible for ensuring fair, accurate, and efficient court operations for all residents.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Managing Court Records

  • Maintaining all Superior Court and District Court files
  • Keeping accurate, secure, and accessible legal records
  • Processing filings for civil, criminal, family, and juvenile cases

    • Overseeing Estates and Special Proceedings

  • Estates and wills
  • Guardianships (minors & adults)
  • Name changes
  • Foreclosures
  • Incompetency hearings

    • Supporting Judges and Courtroom Operations

  • Preparing court calendars
  • Swearing in jurors and witnesses
  • Managing courtroom clerks and administrative staff
  • Ensuring smooth, orderly court sessions

    • Collecting and Managing Court Fees and Payments

  • Court costs, fines, and restitution
  • Trust accounts
  • Financial reporting and distribution
